Artist's Comments

I was raised Catholic, and - though I have fallen away from religion quite considerably since, I'll admit - I have retained a strange fondness for saints, and most particularly St. Sebastian. It may have something to do with his colossal bad luck - he was tied up and shot with arrows for being a Christian in the wrong place at the wrong time, but somehow managed to survive, thanks to one St. Irene, only to be clubbed to death shortly thereafter. This is my own rendition of his martyrdom, with a slightly more surreal tinge than the usual Renaissance version.

I love the arrows. The shafts are surprisingly straight and the feathers come off perfectly! Wonderfully done bleeding wounds too! And cloth. Good cloth.
You have a strange way with compliments. For some reason I love your "And cloth. Good cloth."

I'm sure Shan would rather I'd drawn him without the cloth...
I am fascinated by religious art and love your depiction of St. Sebastian. Lapsed Catholic here too!

Thank you! I love religious art as well, and I'm glad you like my version. I was trying to be a little different, since I think there's something like 300 other depictions from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Spice things up a little.
